Ellen, a relatively new widow and a devout Southern Republican, and her two grown children gather at Ellen’s Florida retirement home to celebrate Christmas.  Her son, Scott,  is a liberal columnist from New York and her daughter, Nancy, is a progressive Democrat from Los Angeles who cannot bring herself to tell her mother of her divorce.  Pandemonium breaks loose when Nancy’s boyfriend surprises her by showing up.  Of course, she introduces him as Scott’s gay partner.  It might work except Carlos, Scott’s real gay partner, also shows up unexpectedly.
